Monongahela City is a gentle, residential community located 17 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. With origins dating back to 1769, it is the oldest settlement in the Monongahela Valley. The town takes its name from the River, called "sliding banks" by the ancient Adena people. In the early 1700's, Joseph Parkison and the DeVore brothers built competing ferries on the Monongahela, and pioneers started their westward journeys here
