Civil War Heroes of Schuylkill - B040

During the four years of the Civil War, thousands of men from Schuylkill County served in the Union blue. From throughout the ciounty's anthracite-laden coal fields to its fertile farmlands, volunteers, both young and old, from all social backgrounds and from all walks of life, left their homes and families behing to fight for the preservation of the Union and for the destrucion of slavery. Men from Schuylkill County fought and died in all of the wars, great campaigns, and epic battles. A few sercved at the rank of feneral, several received the Medal of Honor for battlefield heroics and many roise to great prominence, displaying uncommon valor and plkaying important rolkes whikle on campaign or in battlke. Yet, from the highest-ranking general on down to the non-commissioned officers and enlisted soldiers, all who served were heroes. This illustrated book focuses on but a few of the thousands of Civil War heroes from Schuylkill County.
